Eurofins and Biome Makers announce international alliance

Eurofins Agroscience Services (EAS Group) and US-based Biome Makers are pleased to announce an alliance to distribute BeCrop®.

Biome Makers’ unique soil functional analysis technology. This will provide a new standard of soil biodiversity analysis in Europe for farmers, agronomists, and the wider agricultural industry.

BeCrop combines DNA Sequencing and intelligent computing for functional soil analysis offering crop-specific data-driven insights on what soil really needs to be healthy, and optimal for any crop. The applications of functional soil analysis are many; from taking action to improve yields or lower disease risk, to testing the effect of agro-input products and monitoring farm practices.

In acquiring this first worldwide BeCrop technology license, EAS Group reinforces its existing portfolio of agronomic analytics. Along with Eurofins Agrotesting and Eurofins Genomics, EAS Group will deliver this unique soil functional analysis in Europe, further enhancing the soil microbiome analysis already offered.

This alliance will contribute to a safer and healthier world, helping agro R&D private and public organizations, farmers, agro-input manufacturers, and ag-retailers in Europe by providing them with technology to enhance the productivity and sustainability of arable soils.

Biome Makers have demonstrated their technological advantage in decoding soil microbial interactions across a broad-spectrum audience; from small farms through to leading agricultural companies, and within any crop. The strategic partnership with Eurofins reflects Biome Makers’ global vision to accelerate the shift to more sustainable agricultural practices by making soil microbiology data readily available and positioning itself as a data computing leader in the soil agriculture space.

In the words of Adrián Ferrero, CEO at Biome Makers, “This license model allows us to scale the commercial network in Europe, making BeCrop biological soil tests accessible to any European farmer. It is also a great opportunity to improve the logistics of soil analytics, Eurofins can definitely apply the standard of quality in the microbiome-DNA sequencing process that is necessary to provide BeCrop reports.”

With soil degradation affecting around 1/3 of agricultural land, according to FAO(1), this alliance is an example of a collaborative effort to mitigate the effects of climate change and restore soil health functions across traditional agriculture in Europe.
