Location: Europe (remote job)

We are looking for a motivated and experienced individual to work as Biostatistician in our Data Science Team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop novel quantitative models and methodologies that can enhance our products' utility for our clients, based on microbiome and associated data. 
  • Rapidly implement several approaches in cases of novel problems, and propose an appropriate solution.
  • Communicate, explain, and contextualize statistical concepts and results to a wide variety of stakeholders (with varying degrees of statistical know-how).
  • Support the data science team in the form of statistical advice
  • Evaluate existing production and development code with an aim to improve rigor, accuracy, and/or performance.
  • Timely and successful delivery of solutions and reports according to the company needs.
  • Maintenance and documentation of software, following best software engineering practices and reproducibility technologies.

Job Competencies & Personal Attributes:

  • Ph.D. in a quantitative field (statistics, mathematics, computer science, or similar).
  • At least 4 years of experience as a statistician/data scientist (academy or industry).
  • At least 1 year of experience in a biological field with count compositional data (microbiome, gene expression, or single-cell).
  • Proficiency with a wide variety of quantitative methods: statistical, machine learning, and further artificial intelligence models, at both theoretical and practical levels.
  • Strong programming skills: advanced-level R and Python.
  • Experience using version control software (e.g., Git) to manage programming code.
  • You are fluent in English (and Spanish is a big plus).
  • You are a multi-task maker (this is key for the position).
  • Good problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills to work in a distributed team.
  • Ability to take ownership over your work.
  • You have great adaptation capabilities, flexibility, and resilience in a very dynamic and challenging context.
  • You are proactive and you identify potential blockers in advance, and you can plan your activities accordingly.
  • You solve problems with a pragmatic approach balancing best practices and speed.
  • You are a team player willing to share information and coordinate with your team.
